Hey Everyone:

We've got our fourth installment of the Developer Q&A series for you today. Take a look!

Topic for Q&A #5: MULTIPLAYER!

Post your questions!

Other than single player campaign and multiplayer, will there be any other gameplay modes?

Fracture will include a robust single player campaign and online multiplayer. There will be several game modes and maps in multiplayer, which we will be announcing in the coming weeks. There are also collectable items spread throughout the campaign that will unlock additional content for the player.

I was wondering if there was going to be an online Beta for Fracture (like Halo 3 did), or if there will be a demo available on Xbox Live?

We are definitely planning to release a demo, and will be announcing the exact timeframe shortly. Expect to see it on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network a few weeks before launch.

Will there be a PC version of Fracture?

We have not announced a PC version of Fracture.

How many cut scenes will there be in Fracture?

Fracture has an engaging story to tell, and Day 1 Studios has put a lot of time into creating very compelling cinematics. As the game progresses, players will experience a number of major events both in cinematics and gameplay. There will also be smaller cutscenes throughout that game that really help to develop the main characters.

Why did you choose to focus the story on the war between genetics and cybernetics, as well as global warming, for the backdrop of the game?

Both global warming and genetic engineering have continued to be particularly relevant topics, so we wanted to take these familiar debates and extrapolate 150 years in the future. Because players are familiar with these issues, we felt it would lead to a compelling story about a possible ‘worst case scenario’ vision of the future.

It looks like from the website that there will only 4 levels. I was wondering, or hoping, that there would be more since too few could make the game boring!

There will be three major locations Jet Brody visits over the course of the single player campaign, but within these environments there will be several missions with a unique look and feel. For instance, in San Francisco players will fight in a prison on Alcatraz, canyons in the dried out San Francisco Bay, and in an underground construction facility. Each of these areas has a very distinct look, but they are all located in the same geographical area.

Will there will be a boss fight at the end of the campaign and if so, how hard will the fight be for Jet? If no there are no boss fights, are there some pretty hard fights in the campaign?

There are going to be some very exciting boss fights throughout the game. As you might imagine, things can start getting a little crazy when genetic experimentation goes too far. Jet will have to make use of all of the tactics he has learned so far to take out such formidable opponents, including terrain deformation, and augmentations.

During single player campaign, will we be able to do side missions and the main missions or do we only get to do the main missions.

There is only one main storyline in Fracture, but players will be encouraged to spend extra time exploring the levels. The adventurous players that use terrain deformation to explore each nook and cranny will be rewarded with powerful weapons and data cells that unlock other areas of the game.

Will we be able to play as different characters other than Jet? If we can’t, will we be able to unlock new costumes for Jet?

In online multiplayer, players will be able to play as the Pacificans and as soldiers in the Atlantic Alliance. Currently, we haven’t announced any unlockable costumes for Jet.

Will any of the main characters die in the game and if they do, will they die a hero or will it be a normal death.

We wouldn’t want to give away the story, so you’ll have to buy the game in October to find out!

How many difficulty levels are in the single player campaign and what are they called?

There will be three difficulty levels in the single player campaign. They are: Casual, Standard, and Hardcore.

The grenade throwing animations are a bit bland and you can’t actually see how far you can throw the grenade. Will there be some animation improvements in the final game for throwing grenades?

Jet has a number of different grenade throwing animations depending on which way he is running in relation to where the player is aiming. Our favorite is when he casually tosses a vortex grenade over his shoulder. Players will be able to control the distance the grenade is thrown by aiming higher or lower. Also, if the player jumps and throws at the same time, the grenade will be lobbed even further.

Will there be any downloadable content?

We have not announced any plans for downloadable content at this time.

How many weapons have a scope and how to you use the scope?

Several of the weapons have a “zoom in” mode which brings the camera closer over Jet’s shoulder to improve accuracy, and to better see enemies at a distance. The Scorpion sniper rifle will have a true scope, and will switch to a first person view.

Is the story of Fracture going to end when you finish the game? Or will you be planning sequels?

At the end of Fracture, some of the storylines will be wrapping up, but there may be others just beginning. However, we have not announced plans for a sequel at this time.

Will there be any flashbacks in the game, say a part when the protagonist remembers part of his history and reveals a bit more of the storyline?

We don’t want to give away too much of the story so you will have to play the game to find out. The demo will give players a good feel for how the story will be playing out through the game.
